Read on to learn how to easily replace your water filter so you can keep enjoying clean, safe, delicious water!

What is an Under-Sink Water Filter?

The under-sink water filter is the heart of your under-sink water treatment system. It's responsible for removing contaminants from your tap water, enhancing its taste, and ensuring it’s safe to drink.

It's important to choose the right filter that corresponds to your system's make and model. For instance, if you're using the Sentry Wellness System from Sentry H2O, make sure to use the dedicated Sentry Wellness System filters. These powerful filters utilize advanced technology to eliminate up to 99.9% of harmful contaminants while infusing your water with beneficial minerals.

Why Should You Change Your Water Filter Regularly?

Over time, filters can become clogged with dirt, sediment, and other impurities, leading to reduced water flow and pressure.

Moreover, they can become breeding grounds for bacteria and mold, posing a risk to your health and well-being.

It might be time to change your water filter if you notice signs of deterioration, such as:

  • Reduced water flow or pressure
  • Cloudy or discolored water
  • Bad taste or odor
  • Sediment or particles in the water
  • Leaks or cracks in the filter housing

How Often Should You Replace Your Under-Sink Water Filter Cartridge?

The frequency of changing your under-sink water filter cartridge depends on various factors, including your water usage and the level of contamination in your water source.

As a general rule, it's advisable to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for replacing your specific water filter cartridge.

For the Sentry Wellness System, the recommendation is to replace the water filters every 12 months.

However, it's always a good idea to monitor your water quality and flow and change your filter sooner if you notice any signs of deterioration.

How to Change an Under-Sink Water Filter

Changing your water filter is a breeze, even if you don't consider yourself particularly handy with tools.

While it's best to refer to the manufacturer's instructions for your specific under-sink water treatment system, we've outlined the straightforward steps for the Sentry Wellness System below:

  1. Identify the cold-water source by turning your faucet on to 100% cold and then shut off the cold water flow by turning the corresponding water valve clockwise. This valve should remain off for the entire filter replacement process.
  2. Place a bucket or a towel under the Sentry Wellness System to catch any drips.
  3. Unscrew the Catalytic Carbon Filter Housing on the left side of the system (labeled 'Use with Catalytic Carbon Filter'). Carefully dispose of the water and filter.
  4. Remove the gasket from the housing and replace it with the new gasket provided.
  5. Remove plastic wrap from the Catalytic Carbon Filter and place it into the housing.
  6. Twist the housing back onto the lid, tightening by hand first, and then use the provided wrench to gently fit the housing to the lid (not too tight!), typically a 1/16-1/8 turn, until the labels face forward.
  7. We can’t stress this enough: DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! Overtightening the lid can damage the system and cause leaks.
  8. Repeat steps 3 through 7 for the Trappsorb Filter Housing on the right side (labeled 'Use with Trappsorb Drop-In Filter') to replace the Trappsorb Drop-In Filter.
  9. Restore the cold-water flow by turning the cold-water valve counter-clockwise with your faucet on and check for any leaks.
  10. Keep the cold water running for about 10 minutes until the water runs clear to flush out any air bubbles and filtration media dust from the new filters.
  11. Enjoy your fresh and clean water!
